The massive rainfall in recent days has caused flooding and chaos in parts of Austria. The entire federal state of Lower Austria was declared a disaster area today. In Lower Austria, the Federal Army was alerted and is available for disaster relief operations.
Human rescue by Black Hawk S-70 in Markersdorf
After a traffic accident on the B19 in Markersdorf, St. Pölten-Land district, people were rescued by an Army Black Hawk. He came to help after two civilian emergency services, 1 police officer and 1 firefighter, were stuck in the flood waters at the scene of the accident. The two emergency services were successfully rescued using a helicopter winch.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “In view of the storms, the armed forces have taken extensive precautions. Now the first soldiers will go into action. If necessary, additional forces, helicopters, engineers and soldiers from the land forces can be alerted. My thanks go to all soldiers, in whose commitment the population can always rely. I also wish the many emergency services who have been on duty for days a lot of strength – stay safe.”
