Vienna (OTS) Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON with the following topics:

Construction sites in the Republic

Austria is in need of reform, as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, among others, is currently diagnosing. When it comes to climate protection, the OECD does not see Austria on track to achieve climate neutrality. The economy is weakening, and at the same time the Fiscal Council is expecting an austerity package after the election. And the problems Austria has with migration and integration can currently be seen in violent conflicts on Vienna’s streets. A report by Martin Pusch and Alexander Sattmann about the construction sites in the Republic.

Live in the studio: the head of the IHS, economic researcher Holger Bonin, and political scientist Peter Filzmaier

Horror houses

The “Report” reports on a new slum in Vienna, this time in the Landstrasse district. Predominantly Syrian refugees also live there in desolate living conditions. The conditions in this building were previously unknown to the public – but the authorities have been monitoring it for several years. However, it has not yet been possible to remedy the grievances. This also applies to other houses in Vienna that the “Report” has reported on in recent months. Although a number of authorities are active in the background and in some cases the courts are now dealing with this, the situation for the residents has not yet improved. Yilmaz Gülüm and Faris Rahoma asked people how they were doing and asked the authorities why something wasn’t happening more quickly.

Laws against the property disruption business model?

Complaints from drivers at both the Association for Consumer Information and the ÖAMTC do not stop – the reason:
Because of illegal parking on private property, they received a payment request amounting to several hundred euros. Either they pay immediately or a lawsuit is filed for trespassing. There is a business model behind this that makes the cash registers of both the property owners and the monitoring companies ring loudly. Because the promise is: cold hard cash. For each individual illegally parked vehicle. Many people talk about rip-offs – but the law allows the business model. The legislature could change something about this – but is there a majority for that? Matthias Linke reports.
