Vienna (OTS) Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

Marsaleks Spionagenetzwerk

Former Wirecard manager Jan Marsalek has apparently set up a dense espionage crosshairs. His contacts reached deep into the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and his accomplices were able to continue working unhindered for Russia despite suspicions of espionage. New aspects of the affair come to light almost every day. A report by Stefan Daubrawa, Martin Pusch and Alexander Sattmann.

The live guest in the studio is the Director of State Security and Intelligence, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner.

Cybersecurity

Crime on the Internet is constantly increasing. According to the Interior Ministry, it is one of the biggest challenges for Austrian security. In addition to individuals, the IT systems of municipalities, public institutions and private companies are also the target of criminal attacks. The damage can range from production interruptions to data loss. The financial losses are often enormous. A new law for companies, which is based on an EU directive, is intended to increase cybersecurity in Austria in the future. But how well protected are we currently from cyber attacks? Where are the weaknesses? And what does the new law mean for local companies? A report by Laura Franz and Yilmaz Gülüm.

Live in the studio: security expert Cornelius Granig.

Soil erosion – no end to sealing

There is no end in sight to soil sealing in Austria since the federal states announced their solo effort against the federal government’s goal at the end of February. This would have set a limit of 2.5 hectares per day. Now the states and mayors are back in control and can wave through construction projects or decide on reallocations. A construction project that has been fought over for decades is now entering the hot phase: the eastern bypass in Wiener Neustadt, a road project from the 1960s is now to be pushed through through expropriation. The lawyer, Wolfram Proksch, who represents the affected farmers, has also filed a state liability lawsuit due to a lack of soil protection and has initially lost. In the meantime, sealing can continue – and Austria holds the record with 13 hectares per day. Sabina Riedl and Helga Lazar report.
