“Report” about the super election year 2024, new initiatives in politics and controversial animal transport

On January 9th at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2; Guests in the studio: pollster Andrea Fronaschütz and sociologist Alexander Bogner

Vienna (OTS) Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

Super election year

With Karl Nehammer, Andreas Babler and Herbert Kickl, the ÖVP, SPÖ and FPÖ are entering the 2024 election year with party leaders who have not yet had to face a National Council election – all three see themselves as candidates for chancellor. The opinion polls are clear: the FPÖ has been leading for months. But a lot is still uncertain – not least the election date. How are the parties preparing? In addition, the EU election or the local council elections in Innsbruck and the city of Salzburg, where the communist result could shake up the parties’ strategies, are on the list of dates. Alexander Sattmann, Helga Lazar and Stefan Daubrawa report.

Guests in the studio are the pollster Andrea Fronaschütz and the sociologist Alexander Bogner.

Who else wants to get into politics?

Trust in politics and institutions is decreasing, party democracy is struggling for credibility and young talent. At the beginning of the election year, the “Report” explores how new initiatives in politics are trying to win over people or better network political professionals with one another. Who still wants to get into politics today and why? What contemporary approaches to participation and to politics as a profession are there? Can political operations be designed differently and how could that be achieved? Julia Ortner reports.

Controversial animal transport

The majority of animal transports from Austria to North Africa involve pregnant calves, which are initially purchased by livestock dealers at animal auctions in Austria. In North Africa they are slaughtered after they have calved once. It’s about thousands of cows that make this journey every year. According to animal rights experts, these transports are illegal: prescribed breaks are not observed, the ships are overloaded and many of them do not have EU approval. Pregnant animals that die during this ship transport are simply disposed of at sea. Animal protection organizations were now able to provide complete documentation of these transport routes. The German investigative journalist Edgar Verheyen reports for the “Report”.
