Boom in referendums
14 referendums were signed in the last registration week alone. The topics are diverse, the initiators are often the same. Critics see the reason for the referendum boom in the reimbursement of costs. It is now a business model. The Greens and ÖVP have therefore announced a reform. However, this requires a constitutional change, i.e. a two-thirds majority in parliament. However, the FPÖ is against lower reimbursement of costs. So will there be any reform before the election? Is there really any truth to the “business model” accusation? And how effective is the direct democratic instrument actually? Laura Franz and Miriam Ressi report.

Horror houses – the consequences
Last week, the “Report” revealed how predominantly Syrian refugees were being exploited in several desolate houses in Vienna. Several authorities have since taken action.
