On December 12th on ORF 2; Guests in the studio are Peter Filzmaier and Gabriel Felbermayr
Vienna (OTS) – Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:
Prosecution witness
It was a long wait for his statement, but on Monday the time had come. Thomas Schmid, the former head of the nationalized holding company ÖBAG, now a witness for the prosecution in the short trial, testified. The trial for false testimony against Sebastian Kurz and his former head of cabinet Bernhard Bonelli is a kind of test balloon. It’s about Schmid’s credibility. His appearance on Monday also has an impact on any charges relating to the leg scraping Austria tool and thus the legally more sensitive issue of advertisement corruption. Do these threaten to become a burden for the ÖVP in the upcoming National Council election campaign? Stefan Daubrawa, Lisa Lind and Martin Pusch with an interim assessment.
Inflation and wage disputes
At more than five percent, the inflation rate in Austria remains well above the EU average. As has been the case throughout the year, inflation remains a dominant issue. Christmas business is still going well. Who are the people who are actually severely affected by inflation? Why is inflation not falling in Austria at the same rate as in many other EU countries and what role do the current wage negotiations play? A report by Laura Franz, Yilmaz Gülüm and Alexander Sattmann.
Corona processing
Four years ago there were the first reports of the aggressive corona virus in China. The pandemic that occurred soon afterwards also put Europe in a state of emergency, and the divisions in the population are still noticeable. The Chancellor has announced a thorough review of Corona by the end of the year:
Measures, health care and the state of emergency during the pandemic should be analyzed in order to be prepared for the next pandemic. But above all, it should also be a reconciliation process, because the pandemic has left psychological traces. And there is still no objective way to deal with the virus and pandemic management. Helga Lazar and Miriam Ressi report.
Political scientist Peter Filzmaier and economic researcher Gabriel Felbermayr are live guests in the studio for an analytical review and outlook on the key topics in politics and economics.
