“Report” about criticism of the lack of militia exercises, a new strategy against youth crime and horror houses in Vienna

On March 19th at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2; Guests in the studio: military analyst Franz-Stefan Gady and sociologist Kenan Güngör

Vienna (OTS) Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

The militia – a paper army?

Modern equipment and new weapon systems – the Federal Army is being upgraded with a lot of money. But what about the staff? Since the period of military service was shortened in 2006, there is no longer any obligation for ordinary soldiers to exercise. Despite criticism from military experts, the government wants to stick to it. So is the militia just a paper army, with no value in an emergency? A report by Martin Pusch and Alexander Sattmann.

The live guest in the studio is the military analyst Franz-Stefan Gady.

New strategy against juvenile crime

A Chechen and a patrol officer are currently revolutionizing youth and integration work on TikTok. As a duo “Cop and Che”, Uwe and Ahmad post videos in which Uwe, the police officer, answers questions from Chechen young people. What can you do without coming into conflict with the law? In times of increasing radicalization and segregation of migrant minorities, the commitment of the two is a revolution in youth work and makes an important contribution to the prevention of juvenile crime. Neither schools nor the police could reach the problem kids. The TikTok duo has sparked a social media hype and is clicked and liked hundreds of thousands of times. Sabina Riedl reports on this new type of digital cooperation between social work and the executive branch.

Sociologist Kenan Güngör will be a live guest.

The horror houses of Vienna

Desolate staircases, water and mold as far as the eye can see, and apartments that are rented out at horrendous prices. A few weeks ago, “Report” and “konkret” revealed how recognized refugees from Syria were being exploited in a house on Salzachstrasse in Vienna. Now it turns out that those responsible have two other residential buildings in Vienna where the conditions are also devastating: in Othmargasse and Margaretengurtel. There are major structural defects in both houses, practically no Syrian tenants have functioning heating, and rents are collected in cash. And: Tenants are pressured to sign obscure additional agreements in which they accept the defects. Yilmaz Gülüm and Faris Rahoma spent several weeks researching and confronting those responsible.
