Massively promote renewable fuels to achieve the 2030 target
Vienna (OTS) – “We expressly welcome today’s ’round table on technological openness and deregulation – setting the course for Europe as an industrial and automotive location’, initiated by Chancellor Karl Nehammer, as a merger of the value chain for renewable fuels. The internal combustion engine is still widespread, even in some drive areas “There is no alternative and must be further developed accordingly. In particular, the operation of the engine with sustainable, biogenically or synthetically produced renewable fuels must be expanded accordingly and the efficiency optimized,” demands the board of the Renewable Fuels Platform (PEK). “We need commandments, not bans!”
The climate-friendly operation of the internal combustion engine with sustainable biogenic or synthetic fuels is technologically possible and is practiced both in mixtures and in pure form. In addition, biofuels can be used to avoid greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector very effectively. Cumulatively, biofuels in Austria have already avoided around 27 million t of CO2 equivalents, or around 1.4 million t annually.
Maintaining the mobility of the population and simultaneously achieving climate targets is best achieved by making use of the entire range of available options. Traffic avoidance, greater efficiency, electrification and as much biofuels as quickly as possible. Therefore, there is a need for an ambitious increase in the biogenic admixture in diesel from seven to ten percent, the forced use of fuels with higher biogenic proportions (B20/B30) and the increased use of pure biofuels (B100) in closed fleets, in public and off-road vehicles. Area.
Future research and development activities to further develop the combustion engine should primarily aim to increase efficiency and the use of biogenic fuels. In this way, domestic cutting-edge technology can look towards a green future and climate-friendly mobility can be made possible in a socially acceptable way for everyone.
