Reminder PK July 10th: New drinking water analysis: Considerable residues of the eternal chemical TFA in tap water and mineral water

GLOBAL 2000 and PAN Europe present results of an EU-wide drinking water test and urge a ban on PFAS pesticides

Vienna/Brussels (OTS) After the widespread detection of high levels of contamination by the chemical TFA (trifluoroacetate) in all European waters examined, GLOBAL 2000 now had 55 European drinking water samples and some mineral waters from all over Europe examined, including tap water from the nine Austrian federal states.

TFA is the highly persistent degradation product of a special group of pesticides that belong to the chemical group of PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances). TFA is not only by far the most common and largest chemical pollution in Europe’s rivers and lakes, but – as our current study shows – is also found in drinking water in comparably high quantities.

The results in detail, their classification from a legal and health perspective and the resulting need for action for politicians and authorities are discussed in a report by GLOBAL 2000 and PAN Europe, which we will present at a press conference with a focus on Austria.
