Current common translation solutions are strongly dependent on cloud infrastructures, which raises significant data protection concerns. This applies in particular to phone calls. Some existing on-device solutions on the market try to tackle this challenge. However, due to the inherent restrictions on mobile devices, they often enter into considerable compromises in performance. The speed, accuracy and memory requirement are particularly affected. Honor’s new technology overcomes these restrictions and offers an experience comparable to the cloud directly on the device. The advantages: a robust data protection and an outstanding performance.
Enclose unmatched advantages of on-device communication
The innovative solutions from Honor offer users many advantages: You achieve drastic memory efficiency by reducing the memory requirement from 3-4 GB to just 800 MB – a strong memory saving of 75 %. This is made possible by the embedding of six language packages (Chinese, English, German, French, Spanish and Italian). So there are no more six separate 500 MM downloads. In addition, 2.78 GB of storage space can be saved. The technology also enables a so-called “Speak-As-You-GO” translation, a significant progress compared to conventional methods. So far, users had to wait for a sentence to be completed. Thanks to this innovation, Honor achieves a 38 % increased inference speed and a 16 % increased translation accuracy.
Interspeech 2025 confirms pioneering research
The first work with the title “MFLA: Monotonic Finite Look-ahead Attention for Streaming Speech Recognition“, deals with the challenge of achieving a latency and high-precision streaming language recognition on devices. The integration of a predictor (CIF) based on Continuous integration and the predictor with Honors Wait-K strategy works for conventional WAIT-K strategies with discrete token tasks such as machine translation. The second research work entitled “Novel Parasitic Dual-Scale Modeling for Efficient and Accurate Multilingual Speech Translation” shows how the restrictions of the real-time inference for large voice models can be overcome on resource-limited devices. It can be used on EDGE devices and increase the inference speed by 38 % without impairing the model output.
