PÜSPÖK on the extension of the Energy Crisis Contribution Act

Lukas Püspök, managing director of one of the largest private electricity producers from renewable energies, views the revenue skimming with optimism and ambivalence for the industry.

Parndorf/Wien (OTS) The recently announced extension of the Energy Crisis Contribution Act was not greeted with enthusiasm by producers of renewable electricity, but will apparently enable the industry to further expand renewable energies. “If the creditability of investments in renewable energies is actually increased from 50% to 75%, at the same time the upper limit for the levy per megawatt hour is raised to 200 euros and this crediting can be used over a longer period of time, this would not significantly hinder the expansion of renewable energies . In this respect, this would be seen as positive compared to the previous regulations“, means Lukas Püspök, Managing Director of PÜSPÖK, the largest private wind power operator in Austria.

Interventions in the framework conditions for long-term investments in the energy sector are generally seen as problematic, as this creates uncertainty for companies. From a pragmatic point of view, however, the improvements compared to the previous law are a significant relief for the renewable energy industry. “A commitment to the definitive expiry of the law at the end of 2024 must follow in order to restore investor confidence“, adds Bishop Lukas added.
