Since June 18, 2025, the Danube bridge in the area of the structure has been blocked on one side via the state road B 3, after severe damage to a sidewalk was determined during a routine review. Since then, traffic has been led with a traffic -dependent traffic light control. The Lower Austria road service reacted immediately and developed a concept for a provisional repair. The necessary steel beams and other material required for this have been quickly procured, so that the assembly work by the Krems bridge maintenance work can now be implemented.
Tomorrow Monday, July 7, 2025, the complex work for the provisional renovation of the structure 5 of the Stein – Mautern Danube Bridge begins. The construction work should be completed by mid -August. After that, the currently existing half -side lock of the bridge including traffic light control can be lifted again. Specifically, transverse aid carriers made of steel are attached to the intact side strings. This supports the damaged side winner, optimized the load distribution and ensures traffic safety for the entire roadway.
During the assembly work, further half -side traffic restrictions can occur. As before, these are coordinated by a traffic -dependent traffic light control. According to the current status, the work is planned within around four weeks. The material costs for the renovation measures of the Stein-Mautern Danube Bridge in 2025 amount to around 338,000 euros.
“The Danube bridge is a central traffic artery in the Krems district. We are doing everything we can as quickly as possible. After completing the work, road users should again be available to all lanes on both the bridge and on the state road B 3.
