Protection against violence at work: a long-standing demand, finally in the home stretch! | UG

UG-Polaschek is pleased about the government’s motion for a resolution to ratify ILO Agreement 190.

Vienna (OTS) “The ILO 190 agreement for protection against violence starts where many people spend most of their lives: at the workplace,” explains Marion Polaschek, chairwoman of the Independent Trade Union Group in the ÖGB. And she adds: “This is a very effective place, because everything that starts here reaches many people and can therefore achieve a lot.”

For years, the union has been working tirelessly to persuade people to ratify the agreement, on which Austria played a key role. The Independent Trade Union Group has also repeatedly campaigned for this in all its areas of activity – so far in vain. Now the government seems to have managed to set the course for implementation.

“We were sure that our arguments would eventually fall on the right ears, because they always did,” says Marion Polaschek with conviction. “Always maintaining exchange and dialogue is a basic characteristic of all democrats. And not giving up is a basic characteristic of trade unionists,” she says.

“So of course we won’t stop watching to see how the issue progresses and will speak out again where we can contribute something,” she concludes.
