Prominent support for the “Christ Child”

On Friday, December 13th, the “Christ Child” received active support: Cathedral priest Toni Faber and Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig pitched in at the postal logistics center in Vienna-Inzersdorf and, together with postal director general Walter Oblin and deputy general director Peter Umundum, sorted numerous items Parcels so that they end up under Austrians’ Christmas trees in time.

The idea of supporting the post office as yellow auxiliary angels in the logistics center came about when the new parcel logistics center in Vienna opened in April 2024. Both mayor Michael Ludwig and cathedral priest Toni Faber have gained experience as postal workers in their past and know what they are doing it means supplying the country with packages and letters on behalf of the “Christ Child”. So they quickly offered their support when the post office was busy again in the run-up to Christmas.

“For three years, as a high school student, I worked as a holiday intern at the post office in the 23rd district for several weeks each summer and delivered letters, telegrams and packages. After 45 years, as an “experienced postal worker”, I am happy to put myself in the service of the Christ child,” says cathedral priest Toni Faber.

“Vienna is a city in which we stick together and tackle things together – this is evident not least during the Christmas season. As someone who worked as a postal worker in my youth, I know of the tireless efforts of the postal service employees who are doing great things right now. It is therefore an honor for me to be here today and to work side by side with you to ensure that the Christmas mail reaches the people of Vienna on time. Today’s action is a wonderful example of the Viennese togetherness that makes our city so special,” said Michael Ludwig, Mayor of the City of Vienna.

“We only recently achieved our Austria-wide daily record with 1.56 million parcels. The fact that we can do this is no coincidence, but the result of hard work and incredible team spirit. I am proud of our strong team,” said Peter Umundum, Deputy General Director, Board of Directors for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG.

“In the Vienna logistics center alone, more than 230,000 packages are sorted every day in December. In order to handle these enormous shipment volumes during peak season, team cohesion is essential and every helping hand makes a difference! I would therefore like to thank Toni Faber and Michael Ludwig for their active support. Above all, I would like to thank our employees for their top performance in the most challenging time of the year,” said Walter Oblin, General Director, Österreichische Post AG.
