Project connecting railway – no start with false numbers

Project connecting railway – no start with false numbers
Vienna (OTS) –

The fact that the ÖBB is planning to start the project “Attachment of the VBB” without changes despite the ongoing complaint procedure leads to astonishment at Neos in Hietzing. After all, it was demonstrated in the complaint procedure that the traffic figures underlying the project are not resilient. “We call for the fact that the applicant’s numbers and the complainant’s allegations are checked again to prevent chaos on Hietzing’s streets and footpaths in the course of project implementation,” explains Katharina Kainz, club chairman of the NEOS in Hietzing.

“It is important for us that the effects of the project on fauna, flora and traffic are checked correctly before starting projects,” said Peter Pelz, district council of the Neos in Hietzing. “The complaint procedure against the UVP notification has not only shown that instead of the 925 trees rained by the ÖBB, 1,350 must be cleared for the project, but also that the traffic on the project application is not plausible. The project is important for the attractiveness of public transport in Hietzing and Vienna-nevertheless, care must be carried out when planning.

This grievance is also underpinned by a statement by the Vienna University of Technology. After a precise calculation, the expected traffic load in Versorgungsheimstraße 65% lies above the value specified by the ÖBB. A not inconsiderable deviation that could quickly bring the flow of traffic to the crossroads with Lainzer Straße including tram. In addition, information is missing in the project documents as to what effects on cycling and foot traffic can be expected.
