Preventing outbreak must remain the highest priority, relaxation comes at the wrong time
Vienna (OTS) –

“Our most important goal must remain to prevent an outbreak of the mouth and claw disease in Austria. The salami brought with them from the Easter excursion in Hungary must not be more important than the future of farmers in the east of Austria and the well-being of our animals,” says Olga Voglauer, agricultural spokeswoman for the Greens, criticism of the planned relaxation of the import bans Slovakia.

Due to a new prescription of Health Minister Korinna Schumann, which is due to come into force on Monday, the import ban would only apply to animals and animal products from areas affected directly from the mouth and claw disease in Hungary and Slovakia.

“How should that be controlled – at the main travel time in the dense Easter traffic?”, Voglauer points out and appeals: “We have so far prevented the introduction of this dangerous plague to Austria because we have all adhered to clear and simple rules together. In this critical phase, we stay with us and we continue to protect our animals, all pet owners: inside and our agricultural production.”
