Vienna (OTS) – At a press conference on May 23, 2024, Rahma Austria commented on the new allegations from the Graz public prosecutor’s office. After the failed Operation Luxor, they obviously did not respect the discontinuation of the proceedings against Rahma Austria and constructed new accusations against the club. The reasons for this may lie in Rahma Austria’s Muslim background. The commitment to the starving civilian population in Gaza is also a thorn in the side of some.
Both Taher Hassan, the association’s chairman, and Andreas Schweitzer, their lawyer, commented on this at the press conference.
The main criticism was that securing aid funds came at the expense of those in need who are supported by Rahma Austria and who depend on this help.
The intimidation of hundreds of donors through their morning interrogations by investigators was also criticized as a unique and unacceptable approach against an aid organization. One consequence of government pressure was the blocking of accounts at several banks, meaning that the association can no longer carry out many aid projects. This makes work more and more impossible.
Despite all these challenges, Rahma Austria continued its humanitarian support and from October 2023 to April 2024 a total of over 2 million euros in relief supplies were delivered to Gaza.
Rahma Austria points to its transparent accounting as well as its successful projects in more than 20 countries, which testify to its honesty and responsible handling of donations. They assure all donors that they will conscientiously account for every single cent and will defend their donations to the last cent.
The aid association emphasized that it was only committed to humanitarian issues and called on those responsible in Austria to finally let him work in peace again.
