On June 13, 2025, a press conference with Martin Ladstätter, Vice President of the Austrian Disabled Council, Julia Moser, Chairman of the Independent Monitoring Committee for the implementation of the UN Convention on the rights of people with disabilities and folklecart Bernhard Achitz.
With the 2nd adult protection law that came into force on July 1, 2018, the self-determination rights of people who have a judicial representative were massively strengthened. With a novella planned in the Budget accompanying law 2025, these self -determination rights are to be partially dismantled and the system is collected back into the time of the property law. This will result in people who have an adult representative in most cases to get rid of it until the end of their lives.
It is planned that from July 1, 2025, the review period of the judicial adult representation will be extended from three to five years and the obligation will be deleted to commission a review by an adult protection association as to whether there is still a need for an adult representation.
