The population in Austria will change significantly by 2080 due to developments in births, migration and increasing life expectancy. This is shown by the current results of Statistics Austria’s annual population forecast. The ratio of working people to the 65+ age group continues to shift, and the baby boomer generation is leaving the labor market. Uncertain times also influence birth rates. Given the complex effects of multiple crises, different variants of the forecast are presented.
Figures, data and facts on demographic change and the development of the workforce as well as the effects of these changes on the economy and society are the subject of Statistics Austria’s hybrid press conference with:
- Univ.-Prof. Dr. Tobias Thomas, General Director of Statistics
- Dr. Regina Fuchs, Head of Population Directorate
