On November 28th, 2024 at 10 a.m., the joint project to combat cartels in public procurement by the Federal Competition Authority and the state audit offices of Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, “Prevention and detection of contract agreementsn – a checklist for advertising positions” presented in the Federal Competition Authority.
The state’s total procurement volume averages 67 billion euros and thus around 18 percent of the gross domestic product. According to the OECD, if contract agreements could be prevented, the costs of public contracts affected by antitrust violations could be reduced by a total of 20 percent.
The Federal Competition Authority and the state audit offices of Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg are strengthening their cooperation against antitrust violations in public procurement.
The BWB and the state audit offices of Burgenland and Upper Austria therefore jointly present the guidelines “Prevention and detection of contract agreements“ and explain which behavioral problems can be identified in procurement cartels and how the risk of cartels can be reduced by the tendering authority.
