Today, March 19, 2025, the winners of the composition competition were announced in the Lower Austria military command in St. Pölten on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Federal Army. After the award of first place, the winning fanfare was listed under the direction of the composer. In this competition, composers had the opportunity to create an anniversary fanfare and to write a piece of Bundesheer history. The aim was to create a fanfare that reflects the values, willingness to perform and the future orientation of the Federal Army. The award -winning winning composition will be presented on May 7 and 8, 2025 at the military music festival in the Salzburg Arena.

More than 40 composers – from the military and the civilian area – submitted their works. The submitted compositions had to meet certain criteria: they should have a duration of 2:00 to 3:30 minutes and be suitable for military music casts. Particular emphasis was placed on a contemporary tonal language, modern rhythms and a dramaturgically well thought -out implementation of the topic “Mission Vorwärts”. A jury of experts, consisting of military chapel masters and external experts, evaluated the submissions anonymously. The conductor, composer and educator Andreas Simbeni living in Lower Austria achieved first place. The music teacher Stefan Grübl from the Waldviertel followed in second place, while Florian Moitzi, professor of music didactics in Linz, took third place.
The anniversary year 2025 of the Federal Army is under the motto “70 years of the Bundesheer – always ready” and is celebrated throughout Austria with numerous events. On the occasion of the foundation in 1955, concerts, engagement and lectures also take place in addition to the composition competition. The highlights of the anniversary are the military music festival from May 7th to 8th in the Salzburg Arena and the celebrations for the national holiday, which are all about the motto. The aim of the events is to put a bridge from the past into the future and to combine it with the order of the Federal Army, the “Mission forward”.
