Prammer/Greens: “Kreutner Commission confirms the need for an independent public prosecutor’s office”

The independence of the judiciary must be further expanded

Vienna (OTS) “With Alma Zadić we have a justice minister in Austria who always protects the judiciary and who has worked on her independence like no other. The results of the Kreutner Commission show once again how important this work is and that it urgently needs to be continued. The next step towards permanently securing the independence of the judiciary, even beyond Alma Zadić’s term of office, is the establishment of a general public prosecutor’s office that is truly independent of politics. Here too, the report is in line with our Green demands: The report has shown that too much concentration of power is never effective. Therefore, the independent commission – just like us Greens – advocates a multi-person body like the one the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has set up,” says Agnes Sirkka Prammer, justice spokeswoman for the Greens, on the results of the Kreutner Commission announced today.
