The new one Environmental report of the Ministry of Climate Protection to the Lobautunnel shows that there are significantly better traffic solutions for people in Vienna and Lower Austria than the praise tunnel. The alternative solutions rely on more public transport and cycling infrastructure, as well as targeted parking space management. They lead to less soil seal and less traffic, which creates advantages for the climate, nature and health. The tunnel project, on the other hand, would not only cause several billion euros in costs, but would also increase traffic volume. Greenpeace calls on the upcoming government to take note of the facts and to delete the project from the Federal Reasons Act.
Jasmin Duregger, climate and energy expert at Greenpeace in Austria:
“In many ways, the Lobautunnel is the most worst proposal for the Viennese’s traffic problems. It causes more traffic in the long term and thus damage to the environment, climate, nature and humans. Now there are better alternatives at the table. The upcoming government is required to take the situation seriously and will delete the tunnel once and for all from the Federal Reasons Act ”.
Greenpeace has campaigned against the construction of the lobaut tunnel for years. This would not only lead directly through the Donau-Auen National Park, but demonstrably let the greenhouse gases rise. The much -tank that the economic effect should not be set by the tunnel construction. This is how expert showed: inside the You wien on the fact that when building train stations, train infrastructure and even bike paths, significantly more jobs are created in relation to the investments than when building highways.
