For years, the Grätzel around the old post was burdened with construction work. This was taken as an opportunity to fundamentally redesign the entire environment. With all measures, it has been a very central concern since the beginning to include residents from the start. Before the project began, people were already interviewed, and in the meantime there was an ongoing involvement. The planning took place in close cooperation between the district and the magistrate. With today’s final stone, the redesign was officially completed. Mobility City Councilor Ulli Sima and the district leader of the inner city, Markus Figl, were impressed by the successful project on a joint visit on site.
“We drive the transformation of the city massively and remove, green and cool Grätzl and places. We set the course for a future in the future in all districts and a city worth living in for the next generation. With the redesigned Postgasse and the greened Dominican bastion, we are expanding the high -quality, cooled residence areas that we are already on Michaelerplatz, on the new market or on the new market have conjured up a total of 36 newly planted trees, over 3,300 m² of new seating, and traffic calming brings more calmness and quality of stay in the historical Grätzl. Motto: Out of the asphalt, ”says mobility councilor Ulli Sima.
“The implemented measures show that the inclusion of the residents on site has worked very well since the beginning of the project. The measures lead to the fact that future heat summer is better managed, and this is compatible with both the World Heritage Site and the necessary parking spaces. Historical buildings of the inner city, ”emphasizes the district leader of the inner city, Markus Figl. “Highly growing, large -scale trees will provide shade in the future. Shastic preloads will focus more on the historic buildings and enhance the cityscape as a whole,” continues Figl. In addition, the parking traces are paved with the historic ‘Wiener cubes’ – permeable to rainwater and coherent in the appearance of the old town.
Vienna’s large cycle path offensive
The large Viennese cycle path offensive is in full swing! At the end of the legislative period, the progress coalition has implemented over 250 projects and almost 100 km in the main bike path network and has already invested around 130 million euros in the expansion of the Viennese cycling infrastructure. More than 50 km of cycling infrastructure has also been implemented in the district network. The intensive efforts pay off: the number of cyclists is constantly increasing. The proportion of the paths that are covered by bike rose to eleven percent in 2024 (in 2019 it was seven percent), as the modal split survey 2024 shows.
