Agriculture Minister Totschnig refused to talk about the fully slatted floor, 5 chained animal rights activists still inside
Vienna (OTS) – The 16 animal rights activists only wanted to speak to the Minister of Agriculture, who has an office at the ÖVP headquarters in Innsbruck and is present in Tyrol to report from the perspective of the pigs about their fears and needs on fully slatted floors. They understood each other as “Delegation of Pigs” and had appropriate masks on to make the animals’ interests heard. When they were not received, they locked themselves in the media room of the ÖVP headquarters in Innsbruck. Five people chained themselves together around the neck with bicycle locks and wanted to wait. Totschnig refused to speak to them.
After 3 hours, the police came instead of the Minister of Agriculture and board member of the ÖVP Tirol. She broke open the door and removed the animal rights activists, sometimes carefully, sometimes deliberately painfully, with twisted arms and the use of pressure points. 9 people are now in police custody. The five chained activists are still in the ÖVP headquarters. The professional fire brigade left without having achieved anything because they did not want to hurt the animal rights activists.
VGT chairman DDr. Martin Balluch comments: “Time is extremely short, the legislative period is coming to an end. The ÖVP is refusing straw to the pigs and is blocking the Green Animal Welfare Minister Rauch’s proposal to ban full columns.”Agriculture Minister Totschnig is sticking his head in the sand and allowing himself to be denied. No wonder that animal protection is taking to the barricades.
“The ÖVP should learn the altruism and empathy for animals from the young animal rights activists who are so selflessly committed to the occupation today. The value of a society is reflected in how it treats its most vulnerable. The quality of life of the pigs is also part of the common good. “Only a real end to the fully slatted floor with straw instead of concrete is sustainable.
