After strong lap times and 3rd place in qualifying, the BMW M Hybrid V8 with the start number 24 experienced a change of feelings in the 2:40 hours. After an incident at the pit stop that threw the team back to the end of the field, the team members made a courageous decision. An hour before the end of the race, the vehicle was brought to the box for the last fuel stop at the last tank stop to achieve a strategic advantage in one of the numerous yellow phases.
After the last neutralization of the race, the lead took the lead closely and held it down to the finish, despite the dense ranging. “With this first victory of the season, the team not only broke the spell, but also strengthened trust in their own performance. I got into a groove, and the team did a strategic masterpiece. The car was quick and drove like on rails.
Dries Vanthoor also praised the team performance: “We had enough speed to take first place. Philipp did it great. Now we continue to push the season successfully.”
