On the occasion of the decision of the Hunting Authority of the City of Salzburg, the referendum “For a Federal Hunting Act” invites you to a local inspection with bird protection expert Mag.A Christine Medicus.

The NGOS Birdlife, the Nature Conservation Association Salzburg, the association against animal factories and animal welfare Austria, criticize the non-compliance with the Aarhus participation law Art. 9 Para. 3. In the decision, the recognized environmental protection organizations were failed to comply with the complaint due to the lack of suspensive effect.

Missing scare and cruelty to animals

The “scan” shot granted in the breeding season with sound absorbers (!) Of ten non-breeding gray geese annually, also endangers breeding birds because the geese in the crowd are not distinguishable.

The removal of eggs is violated by the EU Bird Protection Directive (79/409/EEC)(1). The notification lacks the consideration of the circuit status of the eggs and a restriction of the number of clutches with an egg extraction.

The disturbance of the protected shallow water biotope in the southeast of the pond also affects other water birds such as pond chicken, stickers, but also mergers, such as rare ducks and watvögel.

Documented evidence of damage is not available

Evidence of intolerable or serious economic damage, scientific monitoring and the examination of alternatives to shooting down in the breeding season are missing!

Bird protection expert Mag.a Christine Medicus speaks from experience: “The number of leading gray geese on the Leopoldskroner Weiher has hardly changed since 2015 because the breeding places are limited. The birds, the existence of which is naturally regulated (overall mortality of around 25%(2)), meet in the breeding area from mid -February. The first clutch can be found in the second March decade. In June, the time of the very socially living wild birds is over. ”
