“In Austria we have no place for violence against women. By this I mean any form of violence – verbal or physical. We also have to pay particular attention to radical Islam here. Because the dignity, rights and safety of women must be accepted by everyone in this country. Every woman in our country should be able to feel safe and free, be it at home or in public spaces. We are therefore using the coming weeks to draw attention to violence against women and to support the UN initiative “Orange the World” as visibly as possible. It is up to all of us to recognize violence and provide help to those affected,” said State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
“In Lower Austria we have numerous initiatives that offer help and information for those affected. Every woman who needs protection and support should receive this quickly and unbureaucratically. Our state has a well-developed network of initiatives and institutions that offer professional help. We see it as our responsibility to continue to draw attention to these opportunities and to encourage affected women to take advantage of the offers of help,” said State Councilor for Women Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister.
Silke Dammerer, regional chairwoman of We Lower Austrian Women, continues: “It is particularly important to me to expressly condemn violence against women. This makes the ‘Orange the World’ campaign all the more important to us, as it specifically draws attention to the profound problem of acts of violence and increases people’s awareness and sensitivity.”
“From November 25th to December 10th, the action flag will be hoisted in front of our party headquarters in House 2.1 in order to send a visible signal for a decisive no to violence against women,” said state manager Matthias Zauner on behalf of the People’s Party of Lower Austria and Sub-organizations as well as the state parliament club of the Lower Austria People’s Party and the Lower Austria Municipal Association.
