“Franz Sauerzopf was a great lawyer and politician who deeply cared about Burgenland and its people. With his death we lose a personality who dedicated most of his life to public service. As a former deputy governor, the Mattersburg native played a key role in shaping Burgenland and left his political signature. My thoughts are with his family and all relatives,” said Chancellor and Federal Party Chairman Karl Nehammer, paying tribute to the life’s work of former Deputy Governor Franz Sauerzopf, who died at the age of 92.
“Franz Sauerzopf worked for many years as a judge and most recently as Senate Chairman of the Eisenstadt Regional Court. In addition to his legal work, he was active in local and state politics – as a member of the state parliament and as deputy governor of Burgenland. From 1978 to 1982 and from 1985 to 1991 he was also state party chairman of the ÖVP Burgenland. With Franz Sauerzopf, Burgenland and the People’s Party are losing a great politician who was always about the cause and the people. His death leaves a big gap and I express my deep condolences to his family and loved ones,” added the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker.
