Pension insurance: Bilateral agreement on electronic data exchange with Bosnia and Herzegovina

Vienna (OTS) –

More than 18,000 Austrian pensions are paid out to Bosnia and Herzegovina every month. As part of a bilateral agreement, the two countries have now decided to exchange electronic data for pension amounts and death dates. This allows intergovernmental processes to be optimized and data exchange to be established electronically.

Pension insurance providers sign contract

The agreement to carry out the electronic data exchange of pension amounts and death dates was signed in Vienna on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 and applies to pensioners from all Austrian pension insurance providers (BVAEB, PV and SVS).

The contract was concluded by Andreas Herz, MSc, chairman of the Austrian pension insurance, Peter Schleinbach, chairman of the Austrian pension insurance, Dr. Winfried Pinggera, General Director of the Austrian Pension Insurance, and Dr. Halil Subašić, Director of the FZ MIO-PIO Fund of the Federation of BiH Entity and Dr. Mladen Milić, Director of the PIO Fund of the Republika Srpska Entity of BiH.

Andreas Herz, MSc, Chairman of the Austrian Pension Insurance, and Peter Schleinbach, Chairman of the Austrian Pension Insurance: “The provision of digital services means efficient, automated and secure processing of their pension claims for our customers. The exchange of current pension amounts and death dates also reduces the administrative burden of the Bosnian and Austrian pension insurance providers.”

Electronic exchange of pension amounts and death dates

With the electronic data exchange, the information on the annual statutory pension adjustment for pension recipients in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria is automated, but also the processes in the administration of the states are optimized.

The digital comparison of death data will speed up reclaims after the end of pension entitlement and prevent overpayments or social fraud. As part of the implementation of electronic data exchange, the annual obligation to provide proof of life certificates for pensioners will no longer apply in the future.
