Clarity about the continuation of the funding for the heating exchange – that was, yesterday Thursday, the central demand of more than 70 decision -makers: inside of the pellet industry at the first industry meeting in 2025 in the Styrian tent path. The fundamental commitment of the new federal government for a continuation is positive, but it is now urgent and quickly the exact framework conditions for this. The uncertainties would already have led to a complete investment stop – both for consumers: inside and in the case of industry and business. The pellet economy therefore calls for clear and stable framework conditions for the heating exchange from the Federal Government.
„The economic crisis is also a decision crisis
“, Says Doris Stiksl, managing director of the industry representative Prepellets Austria. “”We need a clear decision of politics for domestic value creation and domestic jobs, especially in economically very challenging times.
“The uncertainty in the framework conditions led to a fatal braking within a few weeks. “We have the raw material in Austria, we have world market leaders in the boiler industry, we have top -trained workers,” says Stiksl. “”The current political standstill endangers an entire industry, endangers jobs and is a step back in climate protection.
“The 23,000 pellet heaters sold in the previous year would have secured 65,000 jobs and generated more than one billion euros in added value, STIKSL recalls.
The Styrian State Councilor for Agriculture and Forestry, Housing and Energie Simone Schmiedtbauer described the local biomass as the central element of the renewable future. This domestic energy source must therefore be strengthened. “Our goal is to ensure security of supply with sustainable energy sources from the region. This reduces the dependence on raw material imports from abroad and at the same time make an important contribution to climate protection ”,
So Schmiedtbauer. The State Councilor emphasized the importance of renewable energy sources to strengthen regional added value – for forestry, as well as for companies. There are still many fossil heating in Styria alone – the political goal of the federal government is a complete exchange of these heaters on sustainable heating until 2040.
