Peatetech Alliance is launching cross -sectoral dialogue about the ethical use of digital technologies for peace

Austrian representatives from the areas of Pacebuilding, Research, Policy Making, Public Hand and Culture Discuss the development of Peacetech

The Peacetech Alliance, which is coordinated by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and supported by a growing network of national and international partners, invited to a multi-stakeholder dialog on the subject of the PEECETECH in the Austrian Forum for Peace. Voices came from peace promotion organizations, from international organizations, digitization experts: inside, from research, state sector, science, creative industries and civil society in order to discuss how ethical digital technologies for the peace foundation aimed at humans and how digital technologies should be designed to avoid and in to identify future research focuses on this context.

The event followed the start of the Peacetech Alliance at the International Digital Security Forum (IDSF) 2025 and builds up to create a global platform for dialogue based on Austria’s role model function and the values of neutrality, trust and multilateral cooperation.

The dialogue, which took place in the symbolic Friedensburg in Schlaining – a place that has long been connected to Austria’s peace -and -found tradition – marked the beginning of a new conversation. Based on values such as neutrality, trust, inclusion and multilateralism, the event focused on how technology can support peace in practical, ethical and well -founded ways.

Organized under the motto “The Blueprint: Austria’s Vision for Peacetech” organized the Peacetech Alliance – in cooperation with the Austrian Center for Peace – a wide mix of articles to open a reflected dialogue via PEECETECH. Instead of describing the patio, it was illuminated as a practical innovation field geared to humans, which is characterized by real experiences in different sectors

Nathan CoylePeacetech Alliance Lead and Senior Peacetech Advisor at the Ait Austrian Institute of Technology said: “As far as I know, this is the first time that people from the public sector, science, research, peace development and civil society have come together in order to think together and independently about what PEACETEECH is actually – and how we can do it as a head. PEECETECH Alliance is an important starting point that is based on the knowledge, the values and the experience of those who are already working throughout the country. ”

Design of a cross-sector, bottom-up approach for Peacetech Made in Austria

It was clearly felt that the dialogue brought together perspectives that are able to offer something special: a space for trusting cooperation, in which new ideas can be carefully and from an ethical point of view. The participants also emphasized that this conversation should be designed by various cross -sector actors – and cannot be specified from above.

“This is just the beginning. The Austrian Pakebuilding community is convinced that Austria has the momentum to take a leadership role at Peacetech- not by emulating others, but by building something down-to-earth, inclusive and really own. As someone who does not come out of the tech world, but spent a lot of time in conflict and postal conflict situations, I have learned from first Qualification gaps are and where technology can really support peace work. Astrid HolzingerAustrian Centre for Peace.

“Modern digital technologies and services need a new understanding of sustainable sovereignty and availability apart from mainstream markets in the global context. On the one hand, global technology development must follow ethical guidelines in order to avoid potential conflicts, on the other hand, it is important to use the latest digital systems effectively for global peace processes. PEECETECH Alliance we create a basic platform for the absolutely necessary exchange of all stakeholders involved – from research and development to application, ”said Helmut LeopoldHead of Center for Digital Safety & Security, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.

The result of this exchange is not a fixed timetable, but a joint process that is based on living experiences and is designed by those that are already active in the areas of peace promotion, technology, research, politics and art. The aim is to create a practice -oriented approach that is open to international exchange and reflects the values of those involved in the Peacetech Alliance.

The next steps of the Peacetech alliance

The dialog also showed several areas in which further research and cooperation are urgently required. The participants emphasized the lack of targeted digital technology development to support important peace -oriented efforts – such as international missions, mediation or crisis reaction – and found that the current market dynamics often open up this area for the private sector. Data sovereignty was also emphasized as an urgent concern. Many participants called for a more detailed examination of ethical, decentralized approaches to data management to prevent the resulting digital conflicts and to strengthen trust in peace -oriented technologies.

The Peacetech Alliance will promote this agenda through public discussions, pilot initiatives and European cooperation.

An open source publication that captures the results of the Blueprint will be published in the coming weeks and is intended to do practitioners: Interior, political decision-makers: Interior, creative and technology: Information alike, inspire and motivate them to work.
