“It is completely incomprehensible how the EU deals with this war,” commented Harald Vilimsky, a freedom of delegation in the European Parliament, the decisions of today’s EU summit to Ukraine. “While the Leyen, Kallas and other EU representatives use terms such as ‘ceasefire’, ‘negotiations’ and ‘peace’, they actually do nothing to implement them,” says Vilimsky. Instead, further billions will continue to be transferred to Ukraine in the future. “Does the EU really believe that this money is used for civilian purposes? Of course not. It flows directly into weapons and the continuation of the war. Anyone who speaks of armistice on the one hand but continues arms deliveries is probably the threethest hypocrisy that has ever been seen in Brussels. And all of this happens at the expense of human life – both on the Ukrainian and Russian side.”
In addition, the EU will soon be finally saying goodbye to the principle of unanimity. “The EU makes decisions that affect all member states and intervene massively in their sovereignty – and the ice cold without Hungary, on the prime minister of which an enormous pressure is exerted on the part of the Brussels system,” continues Vilimsky. “This is an absolute imposition. Viktor Orbán acts in the interests of his people and is committed to peace. But instead of respecting this, Hungary is treated by the EU as if it is not existent. This is once more evident that Brussels is ready to pull this war in length at all costs.”
In addition, Vilimsky criticized that the EU was watching standalless while the United States made clear signals for peace under Donald Trump. “In principle, this is greeted, but it remains with empty statements – instead of actively participating in it, the EU is limited to symbolic support without taking any specific steps for peace.” It is high time that the EU end its fatal war course, find it back to its values and democratic principles and to do justice to its role as a peace project. “The EU must finally stand up for peace – not only with words, but also with deeds,” emphasized Vilimsky.
