LR Teschl-Hofmeister: Nursing is an exciting profession with a lot of potential for a lifelong career path
St.Pölten (OTS) – On July 1, 2024, after a successful hearing, Michaela Lienhart will take over as nursing director at the Hainfeld Nursing and Care Center (PBZ). Waltraud Eder – most recently working as nursing director – was retired after a total of 40 years of work at the PBZ Hainfeld.
“Nursing is and remains an exciting profession, not just for a temporary period, but it offers a lot of potential for a lifelong career path. This is shown by the life and career path of nursing director Waltraud Eder. I would like to thank her very much for that and wish her all the best for the new phase of her life,” said the responsible state councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister. “At the same time, I am pleased that we can welcome a committed and experienced successor in Michaela Lienhart and I warmly congratulate her on her new task,” said the state councilor.
Waltraud Eder was born in Lilienfeld in 1962 and, after her time at school, completed further vocational training at the responsible health and nursing school in Mödling, which she completed in 1981 with a general diploma. After her training, in the same year she went to the city hospital in Bregenz for further professional qualifications in orthopedics and surgery. After a short trip to the western hemisphere of Austria, she returned to Lower Austria a year later to what is now the St. Pölten University Hospital, where she worked in the accident first aid and obstetrics departments until the birth of her first child. After her maternity leave, she began working in 1984 as the first DGKP (certified health and nursing nurse) in what is now PBZ Hainfeld due to her proximity to her home. Even though she intended this station as the first anchor point for starting her career after maternity leave, she remained loyal to PBZ Hainfeld throughout her entire professional life. “Due to many interesting challenges, such as the new construction of the nursing home and the opportunity to help shape it, the planned maximum stay of 2 years has now turned into a total of 40 professional years. First ward manager, then dual function ward manager and nursing manager, then nursing service manager and finally nursing director. However, each of these professional steps was always supported in the best possible way because I was always able to continue my training accordingly,” says the outgoing nursing director, looking back on her professional path. “As a valued colleague but also as a friend, we would like to thank Waltraud Eder for the good cooperation over the long term,” says Gabriela Galeta, commercial director of PBZ Hainfeld.
At the same time, Michaela Lienhart was able to acquire the necessary skills as a long-time employee at PBZ Hainfeld in the role of nursing and care manager and deputy nursing director. “I have been working at the PBZ Hainfeld since 1999 and a possible career step like this also requires lead time in order to acquire the necessary training and also the practical technical knowledge. Thanks to the good cooperation over the years, I was able to learn a lot from Waltraud and now feel very well prepared for this responsible task,” says Michaela Lienhart, who will officially take over the role on July 1st. “Who knows, maybe Waltraud will stay with us as an employee in the area of volunteer work, we are working on it,” adds Michaela Lienhart.
“The career paths of Waltraud Eder and Michaela Lienhart are really good examples of the many opportunities that the nursing profession has to offer at the Lower Austrian State Health Agency – but also the career opportunities that are possible within our nursing and care centers. We would like to thank them and wish them all the best for their future journeys in life,” said NÖ LGA board member Konrad Kogler.
“The nursing profession is developing just as constantly as all professions in the health sector. So that the next generations can continue this profession with as much joy and health, we in Lower Austria continue to implement many initiatives at various levels, such as company health promotion, various career models or appropriate further training offers, in order to optimally reflect the constant increase in knowledge in nursing can,” concluded State Councilor Teschl-Hofmeister.
