In Schleedorf in Salzburg’s Flachgau, a dog hater is up to mischief. Dog owners had already filed a complaint in August because they found a suspicious piece of sausage with a greenish filling on their property. However, the public prosecutor did not want to have the suspected poison bait examined for cost reasons. The affected couple then contacted the Pfotenhilfe association in the neighboring community of Lochen, which sent the suspicious piece to a toxicology laboratory and now received the result: residues of Coumatetralyl, which is contained in commercially available mouse and rat bait preparations, were found! The report will now be sent to the criminal investigation department.
Pfotenhilfe spokesman Jürgen Stadler said: “The authorities must take such serious cases of attempted animal cruelty and killing seriously! The penalty for this is at least two years’ imprisonment. We are urgently asking the population to provide information – if necessary anonymously – about the perpetrator who is dangerous to the public. Wild animals and children playing, for whom this dangerous chemical can cause serious symptoms of poisoning, are also at serious risk!”
The poison bait was found in Schleedorf behind the former cheese factory. Pfotenhilfe asks dog owners who live in Schleedorf or go for walks with their dogs to be particularly careful. Information is also available via the contact form www.pfotenhilfe.at possible.
