Vienna (OTS) – OVE Service GmbH with the ALDIS lightning information service has expanded its service beyond the borders of Austria. Since October 2023, ALDIS (Austrian Lightning Detection & Information System) has also been operating the German lightning information service BLIDS. OVE Service GmbH has taken over the lightning business from Siemens.
Based on recordings from around 170 measuring stations in Europe, ALDIS and BLIDS provide their customers, including weather services, energy companies and insurance companies, with current and precise lightning data. After taking over BLIDS, OVE Service GmbH (ALDIS) is now also responsible for 42 sensors in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, England, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. “We now serve numerous customers in these countries”explains Wolfgang Schulz, head of ALDIS/BLIDS: „Thanks to our long-standing and proven partnership with Siemens, we had optimal conditions for a smooth takeover. ALDIS is a joint project of the OVE Austrian Association for Electrical Engineering and APG Austrian Power Grid AG for lightning detection and lightning documentation in Central Europe – organized by OVE Service GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of OVE. ALDIS is also an internationally recognized lightning research center and a key partner in EUCLID, the association of several European lightning detection centers.
