ORS successfully completes dismantling work at the Moosbrunn broadcast site

Moosbrunn (OTS) –

Today the ORS has completed the final dismantling work on the shortwave broadcast location Moosbrunn. The broadcasting station, which was built from the 1950s, played an important role in the spread of Radio Austria International (ROI) to Australia, New Zealand, Russia, China and the Middle East, especially during the Cold War. With the advent of other techniques for the distribution of radio programs such as satellite radio and internet-based transmissions, the shortwave radio lost in importance. By December 31, 2024, the shortwave transmission system was still used for some international radio documents.

After the breakdown of two antennas in autumn 2024, the remaining broadcast antennas, including the rotating antenna, were now successfully dismantled. The rotating antenna disassembled by a precise explosion with official agreement.

“Thanks to the prudent planning and the professional implementation and cooperation of the teams, the impairments for residents could be limited to a minimum, such as the short -term lock of the municipal road. We would like to thank you for your understanding throughout the construction phase, “explains ORS spokesman Michael Weber.

The area is now being handed over to the ORF. The ORF checks the subsequent use options.
