Vienna (OTS) When the top athletics teams meet in the all-around competition in Götzis on May 18th and 19th, 2024, ORF Vorarlberg will be there again in a big way and will report on this internationally important sporting event from Vorarlberg in multimedia.

Dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games

This year, for the 49th time, the Hypomeeting in Götzis invites the world’s best heptathletes and decathletes to the first major showdown in 2024. For the queens and kings of athletics, the event in the Möslestadion is all about the Five Rings, as this sporting event serves as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games in Paris. The hypomeeting is also considered an ideal qualification opportunity for the Olympics and the European Championships in Rome.

ORF Radio Vorarlberg from a glass studio

ORF Radio Vorarlberg will broadcast live from the Möslestadion on both days of the competition. The broadcast from the glass studio begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th, and at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 19th. Christian Suter and Roman Neugebauer accompany the event as moderators, ORF Vorarlberg sports reporter Thomas Österle follows the competitions and Laura Überbacher provides the backstage stories.

Top starting field and Austrian premiere

The starting field in the men’s decathlon is prominent:
Olympic champion Damian Warner is the record winner at the Hypomeeting with seven successes and is also runner-up in the world championship. World Cup bronze medalist Lindon Victor from Grenada and indoor world champion Simon Ehammer from Switzerland are also there.

The field in the heptathlon is led by the Dutch Anouk Vetter, who won silver at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and was able to triumph in Götzis in 2022. In addition, the Austrian Heptathlon Championships will be held for the first time as part of the Hypomeeting. In addition to Verena Mayr and Ivona Dadic, Vorarlberg’s Isabel Posch and Chiara Schuler are also fighting for starting places at the major events.

ORF and Hypomeeting Götzis: Partnership extended until 2028

At the beginning of April 2024, ORF Vorarlberg and the Hypomeeting Götzis team announced that their long-standing, successful collaboration will be continued for five more years. This ensures that the world’s best all-around meeting in athletics will be broadcast live on ORF beyond the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and 2028 in Los Angeles.

Markus Klement, regional director of ORF Vorarlberg: “When the world’s best athletics compete for points, meters and seconds in Vorarlberg, ORF Vorarlberg is of course a big part of it via radio, television, online and social media and reports on this important sporting event regionally, nationally and internationally .”

Angelika Simma-Wallinger, editor-in-chief of ORF Vorarlberg: “Major sporting events are always social highlights. Families from all over Vorarlberg make a pilgrimage to Götzis and we also want to show this on all our channels, such as our online ticker – be sure to check it out, there is a lot to discover!”

Thomas König, Sport Coordinator ORF Vorarlberg: “The athletics world is looking forward to Götzis. Anyone who can make a big impression at the Hypomeeting will also be one of the closest favorites at the Olympics and the European Championships. And if a Vorarlberg Olympic dream comes true, ORF Vorarlberg will be there live.”

Alexandra Giesinger, OC President Hypomeeting Götzis: “For the 49th time, the top athletics leaders are meeting at the Hypomeeting in Götzis and all eyes are on Vorarlberg. It is a great pleasure for the OK team that the ORF is giving a multimedia and international stage to the outstanding achievements of the participants and the commitment of all volunteers.”
