ORF RSO Vienna in December: Wantenaar premiere live on Ö1 and “Christmas in Vienna”

Vienna (OTS) The ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna will present, among other things, the premiere of Mathilde Wantenaar’s “Akkordeon Concerto” on December 8th in the Vienna Konzerthaus under the direction of Markus Poschner. The concert will be broadcast live on Ö1. On December 12th and on December 13th. Markus Poschner conducts two guest performances by the ORF RSO Vienna at the Musikverein Graz. The “Christmas in Vienna” gala will take place on December 16th in the Vienna Konzerthaus and will be conducted by Claire Levacher. On December 18th, a concert from the chamber music series “Up close” is on the program at the ORF RadioKulturhaus.

On Friday, December 8th (7:30 p.m.) the ORF RSO Vienna will play in the Vienna Konzerthaus under the direction of Markus Poschner. The program includes the premiere of Mathilde Wantenaar’s “Akkordeon Concerto” and Anton Bruckner’s 7th Symphony. Soloist on the accordion is Vincent Van Amsterdam. Ö1 will broadcast the concert live.

On Monday, December 11th and Tuesday, December 12th (7:30 p.m.) the orchestra will perform at the Musikverein Graz. Under the direction of Markus Poschner, the orchestra presents the 2nd version of the 3rd Symphony by Anton Bruckner.

The traditional “Christmas in Vienna” concerts are among the most sought-after classical music events of the Christmas season. The gala will take place in the Vienna Konzerthaus on Saturday, December 16th (7:30 p.m.), the preliminary performance on Friday, December 15th (7:30 p.m.). Under the direction of Claire Levacher, the ORF RSO Vienna presents a musical together with Patricia Petibon (soprano), Joyce DiDonato (mezzo-soprano), Lawrence Brownlee (tenor), Maria Ma (dulcimer) as well as the Vienna Choir Girls, the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Vienna Singing Academy Program that ranges from the classical repertoire to traditional songs from all over the world to popular Christmas songs. On Saturday, December 23rd, the recording of “Christmas in Vienna” can be seen on ORF 2 from 10 p.m.

The last RSO concert of the year is a chamber music concert from the “Up close” series on Monday, December 18th (7:30 p.m.) in the ORF RadioKulturhaus. Under the concert title “Cello Cuvée”, the cellists Solveig Nordmeyer, Raffael Dolezal, Johannes Kubitschek, Till-Georg Schüssler, Marta Kordykiewicz, Katharina Steininger, Antoni Orłowski and Hannah Amann present music from the Renaissance to the present, including a composition by the RSO bassoonist Leonard Eröd.
