ORF reporting on the EU elections comprehensive and balanced

Vienna (OTS) The ORF rejects the FPÖ accusation of “manipulation” in connection with its EU election reporting. The ORF reports comprehensively and balancedly on all election campaigning groups in its broadcasts. The public broadcaster rejects attempts to drag the ORF into the election campaign with false claims.

The Austrian top candidates for the EU elections are currently guests in the ORF “Press Hour” and in the Ö1 lunchtime journal series “Im Journal zu Gast”. An “elephant round” with the top candidates will follow shortly before the EU elections on June 5th. In addition, the top candidates have already been invited to a series of interviews in “ZiB 2”.

A series of interviews with representatives and top candidates of those European Parliament factions that are also running in Austria is also planned for the next few weeks in “ZiB 2”. As a backstory, there are reports on the national top candidates. With this international focus, the ORF addresses Europe-wide aspects of the EU election.

The fact that this journalistically completely legitimate process is once again being discredited by the FPÖ must be rejected in the strongest possible terms, says the editor-in-chief of the ORF newsroom. ORF Information stands for fact-based and objective quality journalism.

In addition, the misuse of the ORF’s copyright and image rights for political purposes will not be tolerated, which is why the Freedom Party has been asked to stop using and distributing a screenshot that is currently circulating on social media.
