ORF “press hour” with Wolfgang Katzian, President of the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB)

On January 21st at 11:05 a.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Austria remains a high-price country. According to the latest calculations by Statistics Austria, inflation was 7.8 percent in 2023, which is significantly higher than in the euro area. Can the high wage agreements and the federal government’s measures cushion the consequences for employees, or do they also indirectly contribute to price increases? In some sectors, collective bargaining negotiations were accompanied by strikes or threats of strikes. Did the social partners not want to intervene in time, or is the reluctance an expression of weakness? And how does the ÖGB President fundamentally see the relationship between employees and employers? Is the overall tone becoming harsher and the willingness to compromise less? What plans does Katzian have to secure employment and Austria as a business location in the long term? And does the ÖGB President already have a list of demands for the parties in the 2024 election year and for the next federal government?
