While she was still in the delivery room, her father had the illegitimate daughter taken away – for honor’s sake. Johanna is supposed to marry the influential politician Thanner (Sven Schelker), from whom the family hopes to save the financially struggling health resort. Johanna takes refuge in her work in the sanatorium and meets the charming Dr. Mangold (David Kross). When she finds out that she will have to give up her job as a nurse after the wedding, she loses hope of ever being able to lead a self-determined life. It is thanks to Countess Ilse von Hausner (Jeanette Hain) that Johanna does not completely despair. The Countess says she knows where her child is.
