Austria’s nature film professionals answer questions from students
Vienna (OTS) – The most remote places on earth are just as much their home as the local natural paradises. Whether the tropical rainforest of the Amazon, the icy expanses of Siberia, the rocky flanks of the local Alps or the mysterious depths of the oceans – the “Universe” filmmakers have no ability to portray the natural and animal world in its most spectacular way Challenge too big. They often work on a film for years to capture all the fascinating animal and landscape shots that have thrilled millions of people not only in Austria but around the world for almost four decades.
First broadcast in 1987, “Universum” remains one of ORF’s most popular programs to this day. But: How do nature filmmakers actually do that? This is not the only question they are asked again and again! Austria’s nature film professionals are currently providing answers to this and insights into their work – they are answering questions from students in the ORF state studios and are generating great interest from young audiences.
Franz Hafner (including “Russia’s Wild Sea”, “The Siberian Tiger”) began on Friday, June 21, 2024, in the Upper Austria regional studio. On Monday, June 24th, Harald Pokieser (including “Lake Tanganijka”, “Colombia – Paradise Unleashed”) visited the Vienna State Studio. Patrick Centurioni (including “Das Alpenvorland”, “Wildnis 2.0”, “Wildes Innsbruck”) was a guest at the Tyrol State Studio on June 24th and today, Thursday, June 27th, he is taking a look behind the scenes of “Universum” at the Vorarlberg State Studio . And on Monday, July 1st, Christine Sonvilla and Marc Graf (including “Wild Slovenia”, “Croatia’s Coast”) will be guests at the Styrian State Studio. To be continued in September!
ORF General Director Roland Weißmann: “’Universum’ on Tour is an important contribution to the ORF dialogue offensive”
“Students in the federal states ask questions, the ORF nature filmmakers answer and provide insights behind the scenes. ‘Universum’ on Tour is an important contribution to the ORF dialogue offensive. With ‘Universum’, which is popular with the whole family, we come into contact with our audience particularly easily – and what is particularly important to us, with the young audience. ‘Universe’ for everyone – ORF for everyone!”
“Universum” boss Gernot Lercher: “The dialogue has once again shown us how interested young people are in topics relating to nature and the animal world.”
“Even though the program ‘Universum’ has an unprecedented fan base in Austria, the fact that so many, namely hundreds of students, would take part in these first events of ‘Universum’ on Tour in the ORF state studios was still a joyful one Surprise that motivates the editorial team and the nature filmmakers alike. The dialogue between students and filmmakers showed us once again how interested young people are in topics related to nature and the animal world and how much they care about protecting the environment, indeed our entire planet.”
