ORF-III-“Zur SACHE” on February 16th about “Two years of war in Ukraine”

Expert panel with, among others, Velina Tchakarova, Gerhard Mangott and Reinhard Heinisch with Reiner Reitsamer

Vienna (OTS) “Two years of war in Ukraine – how much longer?” This question will be examined in a new edition of the ORF III discussion format “zur SACHE” (8:15 p.m.) on Friday, February 16, 2024. Reiner Reitsamer welcomes Velina Tchakarova (security expert), Gerhard Mangott (Professor of International Relations, University of Innsbruck), Reinhard Heinisch (political scientist, University of Salzburg), Alisa Khokhulya (teacher, fled Ukraine in 2022) and Simone Brunner (journalist “Die Zeit “) in the studio.

February 24th marks the second anniversary of the illegal war of aggression against Ukraine launched by Russian President Putin. Almost half of the Ukrainian population relies on humanitarian aid, and tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians have died since the war began. Experts see the war as a dead end. There is despair among the Ukrainian population – not least because of the failed summer offensive. Now it’s a struggle for money, ammunition and more attention.

What could change military strategy with a new Ukrainian commander in chief? What impact do Donald Trump’s threats not to provide protection from Russia to NATO partners who fail to meet their financial obligations? How would a Trump victory in the US presidential election in the fall affect the alliances in the Ukraine war? And to what extent will the current geopolitical uncertainties bring about a new order in Europe?
