“Sexuality and Health” in “Meryn on Monday”
Not only the psyche benefits from the supposedly most beautiful minor matter in the world, the body also keeps itself fit. Sex can even be helpful against stress, sleep disorders and various pain. Why are the act of love and physical touch so healthy? How much sex is ideal and to what extent sexuality changes in the course of life and in old age? Siegfried Meryn together with sex doctor Michaela Bayerle-Eder on March 10th in “Meryn on Monday” (6.45 p.m.).
The future of food in the “ORF III themed Monday”
In the main evening, the “ORF III themed Monday” is devoted to current nutritional trends. Insects are considered the protein source of the future and an alternative meatless. Will we soon have larvae and grabbings in the food without knowing it? The new production “Grassen, maggot & Co – really the future of food?” (8:15 p.m.) examines the trend closer. Nutritional science thinks a lot of such new opportunities to contain meat consumption. And whoever eats snails, oysters and frog legs would probably not disgust from a cricket, right? The “beautiful new food world” (9:05 p.m.) around lactose and gluten-free products focuses on the subsequent documentary of the same name. Then “coconut or cow? – The hype for the new ‘milk’ ”(9:55 p.m.). The film “Avocado, Cashew & Co – what the health boom” (10.30 p.m.) finally deals with the ecological, economic and social consequences of modern nutritional behavior.
“ORF III Cultural Tuesday”: Premiere “Vienna’s hidden gardens” and “The history of bread”
Vienna’s beauties sometimes slumber in secret when you think of the many private and hardly accessible villa gardens of the federal capital. Apart from large public parks, a floral world with all its stimuli is opened up here. On “ORF III Kulturstag”, March 11, designer Patrice Fuchs explores this gem in the first of a total of two parts of the new “Erbe Austria” production “Vienna’s hidden gardens” (8:15 p.m.) and tells their exciting stories. The summer studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Döbling with a view of Vienna, the newly built settlement houses on the sky meadow in Liesing, the Biedermeier garden of the Austrian poet Paula Preradović and the garden in the former workshop back of the artist Elisabeth from Samsonow in the second district are also developed. Susanne Pleisnitzer portrays the popular local recreation area in the production “A Fesche Wienerwald -Partie – the birth of a place of longing” (9:05 p.m.). The production “The Gardens of the Habsburg – Die Wiener Gartenpracht” (9:55 p.m.) is followed by a new edition of “From the framework” about “The History of Brotes” (10.50 p.m.), in which Karl Hohenlohe goes on an exciting journey through the year -old culture of the bread production.

In a new show by “Werner Gruber’s experimental kitchen”, on Wednesday, March 12th, “weightless enjoyment: from goulash and sex in space” (10:45 p.m.). A “Heimat Austria” new production on Wednesday evening leads to the Salzburg “Saalachtal” (8:15 p.m.) and presents the great variety of nature and culture to be experienced there. “Landleben” then looks around the Burgenland “Seewinkel” (9:05 p.m.). The following “Landleben” film “A Landpartie by Bahn” (9:55 p.m.) documents the development of some railway lines on pure nostalgal wines.
On Thursday, March 13th, the “Land der Berge” new production about “mountaineering villages in Tyrol – from life in the Gschnitztal, Schmirntal & Valsertal” (8:15 p.m.). After that, “Land of the Mountains” remains in Tyrol and continues to the breathtaking region “Around the Karwendel” (21.05 p.m.).
A new edition of “With us Daham” will explore the colorful life “Am Floridsdorfer Schlingermarkt” (9:05 p.m.) in Vienna on Friday, March 14th.
“Thursday night” for World Women’s Day: “Women’s Spitzerl”, “Strong voices, strong women” and the Kernömazonen
The “Thursday Night” in ORF III opens Lydia Prenner-Kasper with her “Women’s Spitzerl” program (9:55 p.m.) about the royal discipline of the sparkling gourmet. This is followed by a new edition of “Soundcheck Austria” with “strong voices, strong women – the show for World Women’s Day” (11:05 p.m.) from the Globe Vienna. As moderators, Silvia Schneider and Markus Freistätter and the Kernölamazons, Michael Niavarani and the Simpl-Ensemble, also Stella Jones and the Schick Sisters welcome. After that, the Kernölamazonen can be seen again and ask at “Cabaret in the Tower” in your program of the same name “What if …?” (0.40 a.m.).
Premiere for “Zeit.Chiche” two-part “Hotel Métropole”
ORF III will present the new “Zeit.Chiche” two-part “Hotel Métropole” on Saturday, March 15th. Episode one “Between People and Nightmare” (8:15 p.m.) tells of the decline of the once fashionable Vienna Hotel Métropole, which was used by the National Socialists after the so-called connection as a Gestapo control center. Built for the world exhibition in 1873, the building was one of the most magnificent hotels in the Habsburg Empire. Travelers from all over the world, such as Mark Twain, resided there to enjoy the luxury of the modern house – it embodied a place of departure into modernity. In the second part of the documentary about the period from 1938 to 1945, when the Hotel Métropolis was the headquarters of the Nazi terror, the second part of the documentary is about “persecution and resistance”. Jewish citizens: inside and enemies of the regime were systematically followed by the Viennese Gestapo control center. At the same time, the Gestapo stoked a climate of fear and distrust among the population to consolidate its power apparatus. Tens of thousands of people were captured, interrogated and murdered by the hands of the Gestapo control center in Vienna. The “30 days until the downfall” (9:55 p.m.) from February 11th to March 12, 1938 highlighted the documentary of the same name over the last month before Austria’s “connection” to the German Reich. Finally, the portrait “Hitler’s Austrian helper – Ernst Kaltenbrunner” (10:45 p.m.) can be seen.
“Experience stage”: “GF Handel Superstar: Theodora” and “From the Graz Opera: La Cenerentola”
On the occasion of Georg Friedrich Händel’s 340th birthday in March 2025, ORF III shows in the “Experience Bühne Matinee” on Sunday, March 16, whose dramatic three -act oratorium “Theodora” (9:05 a.m.) – staged in 2023 in the then renovation district of the music theater at Vienna by director Stefan Herheim. Countertenor Bejun Mehta gave his conductor debut on the desk of the La Folia Baroque Orchestra. The American soprano Jacquelyn Wagner delighted audiences and critics as the title figure: inside. At her side, countertenor Christopher Lowrey was celebrated as a Didymus. The scene of this production was the Viennese “Café Central”.
In the main evening, “Experience Stage” presented Gioacchino Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” (8:15 p.m.) from the Graz opera for the first time. In addition to opulent costumes, rousing compositions and a colorful stage design, the work inspires in its entirety under the direction of Ilaria Lanzino and promises an entertaining and lavish opera evening. The rebellious Cinderella embodies Ekaterina Aleksandrova. Audience favorites of the opera Graz, such as Wilfried Zelinka, Daeho Kim, Sofia Vinnik, Ekaterina Solunya and Ivan Oreščanin, can also be experienced. The men’s choir of the Graz opera sings, the Graz Philharmonic conducts Marius Burkert.
