ORF III weekly highlights: “Woodstock of brass music”, focus on the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize

Vienna (OTS) Monday with “Cabaret highlights from the Donauinselfest”

The day after the big open-air spectacle, ORF III will look back on the brilliant festival weekend on Monday, June 24th and show the “cabaret highlights from the Donauinselfest 2024” in the main evening. Andreas Vitásek opens the humorous evening with his program “Cabaret meets football” (8.15 p.m.), followed by Walter Kammerhofer’s “Wiad scho” (8.50 p.m.). Caroline Athanasiadis (9:25 p.m.), Stefan Haider (10:00 p.m.), Lydia Prenner-Kasper (10:35 p.m.) and Petutschnig Hons with his latest solo “Bauernschlau” (11:25 p.m.) also provide laughs. Comedian Romeo Kaltenbrunner (12:00 a.m.) is looking for love and recognition, and the Carinthian woman with Serbian roots, Ina Jovanovic, talks about her life in Vienna (12:35 a.m.). With “Heritage Österreich” to castles and palaces in historic Styria and Hohenems

On “ORF III Cultural Tuesday”, June 25th, “Erbe Österreich” will again visit “Castles and Palaces in Austria”. This time the look wanders “From Southern Styria to Slovenia” (8:15 p.m.), starting with Seggau Castle, the centuries-old representative seat of the Styrian bishops, continuing to Ottersbach Castle and finally to Bad Gleichenberg and Bad Radkersburg. The cinematic journey also crosses national borders and visits Ptuj and its mighty castle complex, the oldest city in historic Styria in what is now the neighboring country of Slovenia.
We continue with “Heritage Austria” in “Eastern Styria” (9:05 p.m.) to impressive buildings such as the castles Herberstein, Pöllau and Obermayerhofen. The production “New Splendor in Old Walls” (9:55 p.m.) from the series “Austria’s Nobility Among Itself” finally looks to the west of Austria to Glopper Castle, which today serves as a popular event location, as well as to the venerable Hohenems Palace of the Waldburg-Zeil family.

On Wednesday, June 26th, ORF III will present “Farming Life in the Salzburg Lake District” in “Heimat Österreich” (8:15 p.m.) and “Mountain Summer in Kleinarltal” in “Landleben” (9:05 p.m.). “Land der Berge” then portrays “Emperor Franz Joseph and his Salzkammergut” (9:55 p.m.). The monarch’s lifelong connection to the region and, above all, his annual summer retreat in his beloved Bad Ischl acted like a magnet, attracting not only large parts of the court and the nobility, but also the cultural elite of the era in droves. ORF III program focus for the Bachmann Prize

As part of the 48th Days of German-language Literature, the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize – one of the most important literary competitions in the German-speaking world – will be awarded again in Klagenfurt. Even before the first reading days, Heinz Sichrovsky welcomes some of the participating authors with Tamara Štajner, Henrik Szántó and Ulrike Haidacher in “erLesen” (June 25, 10:45 p.m.). Another guest is the successful writer Ilija Trojanow, who won the competition himself in 1995.
On the first two reading days – Thursday, June 27th and Friday, June 28th – ORF III will present a “Culture Today Special” from Klagenfurt at 7:45 p.m. with Bachmann Prize presenter Peter Fässlacher, who will talk to Heinz Sichrovsky about the highlights of the readings and discussions reports and has discussions with jury members. “Culture Today” will present an interview with the 2024 winner recorded immediately after the award ceremony on Monday, July 1st (7:40 p.m.), which will be extended from 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays from that day on.

Up to 20,000 musicians come together and play together in front of the main stage according to the motto “Love, Peace & Brass Music”. ORF III then broadcasts “The Little Egerländer Cast – The Original” (6:50 p.m.), “Cuba Boarisch” (8:15 p.m.), “Herbert Pixner & Italo Connection” (9:45 p.m.), followed by “The BossHoss” (11:10 p.m.) and “Viera Blech (12:35 a.m.). The last day of the large open-air festival opens on Sunday morning (June 30th) with the ecumenical “Woodstock Brass Music Service” (10 a.m.). From 4:55 p.m. there will be music again with “VoixxBradler” and “Menzl XXL – The Wiesn Cast” (6:35 p.m.). In the main evening, as the finale of a rousing festival weekend, “Folkshilfe & Woodstock Allstar Band” (8:15 p.m.) and then “AUT of ORDA” (9:55 p.m.) with producer Daniel Fellner and musicians Paul Pizzera and Christoph Seiler will perform.
