Vienna (OTS) – Consequences of mass tourism in the “ORF III Theme Monday”
The “ORF III Theme Monday” on March 18th is dedicated to the far-reaching consequences of seemingly perfect holiday fun. The main evening opens with the documentary “Cruise Giant Aida – the Insiders” (8:15 p.m.), which looks at the tour operator’s practices behind the scenes. Insiders in the ship’s operations explain the expensive scams and money traps. In the subsequent production “Cruise – What You Don’t Want to Know” (9:05 p.m.), holidaymakers use videos to describe their experiences on the high seas – storms, fires, uninvited guests included. The next question is “Turkey – a holiday paradise in crisis?” (9:55 p.m.). Turkey is considered an attractive holiday destination for many Europeans, not least because of the low prices there due to inflation. But this enthusiasm is being put to the test by current political developments. The evening ends with the documentary “Nightmare Alps – mass tourism and the mountains” (10:45 p.m.) about the difficult balancing act between tourism development and the associated sources of income or emigration and lack of prospects due to a lack of jobs.
“ORF III Cultural Tuesday” with “Erbe Österreich” productions and new edition of “erLesen”
“Erbe Österreich” opens the “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” on March 19th with the documentary “Clean Vienna – (Environmental) World City in Transition” (8:15 p.m.), which shows the federal capital’s journey from soot and horse manure to cleanliness and coziness . “Wienerwald – Habsburg’s Green Sin” (9:05 p.m.) is about preserving the local recreation area for Viennese people through the use of a single journalist. Afterwards, Heinz Sichrovsky welcomes top-class guests from the Austrian literary world in a new edition of “erLesen” (10:45 p.m.). In his most recently published book “I’m fine, if not today, then tomorrow.” Dirk Stermann summarizes conversations with the psychoanalyst Erika Freeman and recounts her eventful life in a touching way. Even after more than 600 titles, Thomas Brezina never tires of awakening a fascination for books in children and adults. In “So What, Said the White Chimpanzee” he tells the touching story of former laboratory monkeys and what it takes for true forgiveness. Monika Helfer proves her love and feel for fine fabrics in her most recently published work “Der Stoff”.

Gentle alpine ridges and original places extend “Around the Klippitztörl” (8.15 p.m.). The new “Heimat Österreich” production on Wednesday, March 20th shows the original way of life of the people who dedicate themselves to agriculture and old traditions. “MERYN on Monday”, “MERYN’s consultation room” and “treffpunkt medizin” on Wednesday
“MERYN on Monday” (6:45 p.m.), March 18th, is about kidney stones. Nausea, frequent urge to urinate and even blood in the urine:
Depending on their size and location, kidney stones can be extremely painful for those affected and, if treated late, can also lead to renal colic and blood poisoning. How do you categorize different types of kidney stones? What treatment methods are available and what should you do if you are repeatedly plagued by it? ORF III health expert Siegfried Meryn answers these and other questions together with a specialist. On March 20th, “MERYNS sprachzimmer” will be dedicating the program “When the immune system becomes the enemy” (10:30 p.m.) to the increasingly frequently diagnosed autoimmune diseases. A healthy immune system is crucial for protecting the body from harmful invaders such as bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. Siegfried Meryn will discuss this with Hans-Peter Hutter, specialist in hygiene and microbiology, specializing in environmental and preventive medicine, Erika Jensen-Jarolim, specialist in clinical immunology with a specialization in allergology, and Ruth Fritsch-Stork, medical director of the Mariahilf Health Center of the ÖGK Vienna . In keeping with this, “treffpunkt medizin” answers the question “How does our immune system work?” (11:20 p.m.).

Last but not least, the stage is clear for “Austrofreds Barcelona” (1.10 a.m.) with Mira Lu Kovacs and Patrick Pulsinger. It will be interesting to see how the singer, composer and musician and the DJ, producer and label operator find each other.
“zeit.geschichte”: Premiere “Hitler’s Executive – The Austrian Police under National Socialism”
On Saturday, March 23rd, ORF III starts the “zeit.geschichte” evening at 7:25 p.m. First of all, the film “Always be vigilant – 60 years of documentary archives of the Austrian resistance” is dedicated to the history of the important institution. When the National Socialists came to power, the domestic executive branch was also integrated into the apparatus of power and terror. Without the active cooperation of the police, the National Socialist system of rule in Austria would not have been able to establish itself so quickly and last for so long.
