Program focus on the 80th anniversary of the Stauffenberg assassination attempt
ORF III is dedicating a “zeit.geschichte” program focus to the 80th anniversary of the Stauffenberg assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on Saturday, July 20th. The evening opens with the production “Death to the Dictator – The Failed Hitler Assassinations” (8:15 p.m.), about no fewer than 30 attacks that were carried out on Hitler between 1921 and 1944. Afterwards, the documentary “Stauffenberg – The True Story” (9:10 p.m.) portrays the mastermind of the most famous attack attempt: Wehrmacht officer Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. The unmasked “Carl Szokoll – Key Witness in the Hitler Assassination” (10:05 p.m.) later defied Hitler’s order to destroy the city of Vienna before the Allied troops invaded, and thus found his place in the history books as the “Savior of Vienna”. After the war he became a film producer and author and was involved in productions such as the legendary “Bockerer”. The main topic concludes with the film “With Hitler at War – Under Foreign Flags” (10:55 p.m.) about Wehrmacht deserters and (mostly Jewish) refugees in the ranks of the Allies against the Nazi regime.
