ORF III weekly highlights: Premiere for the “zeit.geschichte” series “The Emperor’s Faithful” and “Love and Body Cult Back then”

Vienna (OTS) “ORF III Theme Monday” on “organic” and other nutritional trends

For many people it is natural to buy organic products. At the start of the “ORF III Theme Monday” on April 22nd, a new documentary production asks “Organic – the solution for everything?” (8:15 p.m.) and looks at what actually lies behind the term “organic”. Vegan foods are also trendy. From meat and sausage manufacturers to start-ups and supermarkets: almost all of them now offer plant-based alternatives. The film “Vegan of all things” (9:05 p.m.) sheds light on how expensive substitute products are in comparison, what they taste like and whether they have any health benefits. “The Mediterranean Cuisine” (9:55 p.m.) is generally known to be health-promoting, but is it really a “recipe for a long life?” The documentary goes in search of it in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, France, Spain and the USA the latest research results. The evening ends with the production “Enemy Carbohydrates” (10:50 p.m.) and is dedicated to the low-carb nutritional trend.

Health in ORF III: ADHD, the cell phone as a cause of illness and non-substance-related forms of addiction

“Recognizing ADHD” is the topic of “MERYN on Monday” (6:45 p.m.). ORF III health expert Siegfried Meryn, together with Thomas Vanicek, specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine and head of the outpatient clinic for ADHD at the Vienna General Hospital, answered the audience’s questions about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. “Until the battery is empty – does the cell phone make us sick?” – this is the question that will be discussed on Wednesday, April 24th, in “MERYNS sprachzimmer” (10:30 p.m.). The smartphone has become an indispensable companion in today’s world. Whether professional communication, social interaction or leisure activities – the cell phone is always close to us. While we reap many benefits, there are also some negative health aspects to consider when it comes to our physical and mental health. This is followed by the “Dok1” dacapo “Not without my cell phone!” (11:20 p.m.) with Lisa Gadenstätter, followed by “On a Melange with Musalek” (12:05 a.m.) on the topic “When buying becomes an illness – nature and treatment “Shopping Addiction” about forms of addiction that are not linked to substances.

“ORF III Cultural Tuesday”: Premiere “Love and Body Cult Back then”, new edition “erLesen”

“Erbe Österreich” starts the “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” on April 23rd with the new production “Love and Body Cult Back then” (8:15 p.m.). For a long time, people’s bodies were viewed as work tools that simply had to function. But in the late 19th century, people began to discover the joy in their own physique. The film shows how the new body image of that time formed the basis for the liberation movements of the 20th century. Afterwards, two more “Heritage Austria” documentaries are on the schedule: “Off to the South – The Conquest of Semmering (9:05 p.m.) and “History of the Vienna Baths” (9:55 p.m.). Afterwards, Heinz Sichrovsky welcomes top-class guests from the Austrian literary scene again in a new edition of “erLesen” (10:45 p.m.). In his most recently published book “I’m fine, if not today, then tomorrow.” Dirk Stermann summarizes conversations with the psychoanalyst Erika Freeman and recounts her eventful life in a touching way. Even after more than 600 titles, Thomas Brezina never tires of awakening a fascination for books in children and adults. Documentary premieres in “Home Austria”, “Country Life” and “Land of the Mountains”

“Heimat Österreich” is first on the road on Wednesday, April 24th, “At the foot of the Untersberg” (8:15 p.m.). The new production portrays the region around the almost 2,000 meter high elevation in the Salzburg borderland and its traditions. The new “Country Life” documentary “An der Piesting” (9:05 p.m.) then goes first to southern Lower Austria and then “Around Windischgarsten” (9:55 p.m.) to the Pyhrn-Priel region in the Hinterstoder area. On Thursday, April 25th, “Land der Berge” will explore “The Magical Maggia Valley” for the first time:
Clear mountain lakes and majestic peaks” (8.15 p.m.). The mix of Alpine beauty and Mediterranean flair makes the area a unique refuge. The idyllic places, in a wonderful location between mountains and water, have been attracting artists since the 20th century. Finally, “Land der Berge” continues “From Brandnertal to Montafon” (9:05 p.m.).

New edition “The Round Table”, birthdays of Reinhard Nowak and Ursula Strauss

Gerald Fleischacker opens “Thursday Night” on April 25th with a new edition of “The Round Table” (9:55 p.m.). This time Florian Scheuba, Christoph & Lollo, Caroline Athanasiadis and Aida Loos are taking part in the satirical monthly review. On the occasion of Reinhard Nowak’s 60th birthday, ORF III is showing the TV premiere of its new program “Endlich!” in “Cabaret in the Tower” (11 p.m.). This will be followed by a 2020 edition of the musical ORF-III-Late from the Transport Museum Remise. Night show “DENK mit KULTUR” (11.55 p.m.), in which Reinhard Nowak and Erika Pluhar are guests of Birgit Denk. ORF III continues the birthday festival with the Austrian cabaret classic “Schlabarett – Mushroom Atom from the Left” (12:40 a.m.). In this Federal Army grotesque from 1985, Alfred Dorfer, Andrea Handel, Roland Düringer and Reinhard Nowak talk about the institution of the “Army”. Finally it says: “Simpl”:

“zeit.geschichte”: Start of the new series “The Emperor’s Faithful”

The new multi-part “zeit.geschichte” series “Des Kaiser’s Faithful” sheds light on central personalities at the end of the monarchy and the First World War. For the premiere on Saturday, April 27th, ORF III will portray “The Emperor’s Spy – Maximilian Ronge” (8:15 p.m.). As the monarchy’s last intelligence chief, he spent his life serving the empire in the world of espionage. He was the invisible mastermind in the background who guided people, even up to the tragic end of Colonel Redl, into whose hand he put the pistol. After World War II, he used his extensive knowledge to bring former Nazis to justice. The second part of the new production focuses on “The Emperor’s Weaponsmith – The Skoda Works” (9:05 p.m.). Most people today only know it as a car brand, but Skoda was one of the most influential companies in the KuK monarchy. Initially specializing in civilian goods, the company increasingly focused on weapons production at the end of the 1880s. At the height of the war, Skodawerke was the Dual Monarchy’s largest arms supplier with 35,000 employees. This is followed by the documentaries “The Last Emperor – Charles I.” (9:55 p.m.) and “Reckoning with a Dynasty: The Habsburgs after 1918” (10:45 p.m.).

Classical music on Sunday: “Stage Experience with Barbara Rett” in the spirit of Beethoven

As part of the ORF III program focus on the 200th anniversary of the premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, “Experience Stage with Barbara Rett” will dedicate the main TV evening on Sunday, April 28th to the composer’s work. The film “Beethoven: The Tenth – How could it have continued?” (7.20 p.m.) provides insights into an exciting project that was initiated on the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday. A complete symphony was created with the help of AI from the 40 sketches that the composer left behind for his “tenth”. ORF III will then present the two-part series “Beethoven’s Vienna” about the important composer’s footsteps in the capital. The first part, “I wanted to span the world…” (8:15 p.m.) shows his apartments and places of work in the inner districts of Vienna. Part two “Yes, the beloved hope…” (9:20 p.m.) takes you to Heiligenstadt, Grinzing, Mödling and Baden. Beethoven not only sought relaxation and inspiration there, but also a cure for his suffering.
