Vienna (OTS) – “ORF III Theme Monday” and new “Streitzeit” issue about noble ski tourism
The “ORF III Theme Monday” on January 15, 2024 at 8:15 p.m. will be dedicated to the billion-dollar business of ski tourism in Tyrol with the new production “Kitzbühel and the Ski Clans”. Who really deserves it? Local ski clans, foreign investors, other profiteers? Where does the money come from for expensive lifts, hotels and chalet villages? Then the focus is on: “Kitzbühel and the Russians” (9:05 p.m.), “Kitzbühel and the real estate boom” (9:55 p.m.) and – on the topic of the effects of the construction boom on people and the environment – the fourth documentary of the evening: “Kitzbühel – Tourism at any price (10:30 p.m.).
On Tuesday, January 16th, “Heritage Austria” with “Kitzbühel – the rise of a cult location” (9:55 p.m.) will also be all about the popular posh ski resort. “Prices, climate, crowds – is skiing still the easiest thing to do?” Peter Fässlacher asks this question in the subsequent new edition of the talk format “Streitzeit” (10:45 p.m.) to his guests Ursula Bittner (Greenpeace), Michaela Dorfmeister (former ski racer), Marc Olefs (climate researcher) and Günther Aigner (future ski sport).
“Heritage Austria”: Premiere for a new episode “Vienna’s Hidden Palaces”
From 8:15 p.m., the “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” takes a look behind the facades of hidden magnificent buildings: Karl Hohenlohe shows, for example, the former Austro-Hungarian War Ministry on Stubenring, as well as the Palais Equitable, prominently located on Stock-im Eisen-Platz. The secrets of the Archbishop’s Palace on Stephansplatz are also revealed. Afterwards, another “Heritage of Austria” documentary is on the program: “Imperial Vienna – a big city fights against the cold” (9:05 p.m.).
Health in ORF III: “MERYN on Monday”, “MERYNS beratungzimmer” and “treffpunkt.medizin” on Wednesday
“MERYN am Montag” from 6:45 p.m. is about “skin care in winter”. Cold wind and dry heated air: The winter months are particularly stressful for our skin and cause dry, itchy and flaking skin. How can the largest human organ be protected from dryness and itching in winter? ORF health expert Siegfried Meryn and dermatologist Julia Lämmerhirt answer viewers’ questions.
On Wednesday, January 17th, it says in “MERYNS beratungszimmer”:
“Weight loss injection: What’s left of the hype?” (10.30 p.m.). The active ingredient, which was actually designed for diabetics, had gained a number of fans last year, although some of them were neither diabetes nor obesity patients. A few months after the initial hype, Siegfried Meryn and other experts draw an initial interim assessment. Finally, from 11:20 p.m., “treffpunkt medizin” will focus on “fat trap diets” and get to the bottom of health myths.
Documentary innovations in “Home Austria”, “Country Life” and “Land of the Mountains”
On the main Wednesday evening, “Heimat Österreich” takes us to “Gschnitztal” for the first time (8:15 p.m.). The small Tyrolean mountaineering village with just 425 residents at the foot of the Stubai Alps is a real paradise for those seeking peace and quiet and nature fans. Then we go to the Almenland “Around the Teichalm” (9:05 p.m.). Wolfgang Scherz and Stephan Bydlinski explored the alpine gem and captured it on film in this new “Country Life” production. Back in Tyrol it’s finally about “The Old Kitzbühel – Of Mountain Farmers and Pioneers” (9:55 p.m.).
On Thursday, January 18th, Marlies Raich explores “Winter in the Kaiser Mountains” in a new “Land of the Mountains” film (8:15 p.m.). She goes on sporting adventures and gets to know the people in the region between the Wilder Kaiser and Kitzbüheler Horn. ORF III will then show the documentary “Winter in the Lechtal – Boden and Kaisers” (9:05 p.m.).
The “Thursday Night” on ORF III
This duo turns the local cabaret scene on its head: With their program “Neue Besenkehr gut” Benedikt Mitmannsgruber and David Stockenreitner share the stage for one evening in a new edition “Cabaret in the Tower” (9:55 p.m.). The humor continues Angelika Niedetzky’s program “The Most Beautiful Day!” (10:50 p.m.). At 11:45 p.m., “Soundcheck Austria” celebrates a very special Radio Vienna club concert from ORF RadioKulturhaus TV with “A Tribute to Elton John & Billy Joel by Mario Pecoraro”. -Premiere. An evening full of emotions and memories that offers the best that songwriting has produced in pop history: with hits like “Candle in the Wind”, “Can you Feel the Love Tonight” and “Piano Man”.
“zeit.geschichte” evening about local ski legends
On Saturday, January 20th, ORF III will be all about well-known skiing personalities during the Hahnenkamm Races. It kicks off with a new production about the breathtaking career of ski icon Michaela Dorfmeister. The “zeit.geschichte” film at 8:15 p.m. looks back on Dorfmeister’s greatest successes and the challenges of her turbulent sporting career. Personal interviews with the ski star and numerous companions also provide insight into life after an active career. Afterwards, portraits of other skiing greats are on the program: “Franz Bracket – The Ski Emperor turns 70” (9:05 p.m.) as well as two editions of the ORF III “Ski Legends” series about Annemarie Moser-Pröll (10:05 p.m.) and Andi Goldberger (10:50 p.m.). ).
Live from Bad Ischl: Opening of the Capital of Culture 2024
On Saturday, January 20th, ORF III will broadcast the “Opening of the Cultural Capital Bad Ischl” live from 5:30 p.m. One of the oldest means of communication in the Alpine region, the yodel, will be heard with 1,000 choir voices at the opening in the spa gardens of the banner town of Bad Ischl with Hubert von Goisern. Doris Uhlich presents her “powder dance”. Conchita Wurst, Camo & Krooked and fanfare players from the 23 municipalities of the Capital of Culture region are just some of the artists who will be organizing the opening.
Classical music on Sunday in “Experience Stage”
Star tenor Rolando Villazón, in his role as director of the Mozart Week, will open the latest edition of the world’s most important Mozart festival on January 24th in Salzburg, where he will also appear as an artist. To get you in the mood for this, on Sunday, January 21st, ORF III will be presenting the audience favorite in “Experience Stage” with a special concert that was recorded in 2007: “A Paris Night” (8:15 p.m.) with Anna Netrebko as a congenial partner at his side. The program primarily featured late romantic works that were tailor-made for the two outstanding voices.
